We Dare… but are they really that daring?

February 24, 2011

Firstly, if this turns out to be an April fools gag, it’s the best one I’ve ever seen! (Apart from the fact that April is months away)

The new trailer for ‘We Dare’, from Ubisoft, appears to show off a game specifically intended to get human beings rubbing themselves together in preparation for sexy time. Awesome huh!

I personally see no problem with turning your Wii into a sex toy for use during foreplay. It’s your Wii and you can do what you like with it! In fact, if I were to criticize Ubisoft for anything, aside from the terrible acting in the trailer, it’s that they haven’t gone far enough. It seems like it’s being marketed as a slightly risqué party game (Suitable for ages 12+). If you’re going to make an adult sex game, make an adult sex game dammit!

Still, it’s great to see developers pushing it a little further. Although given the reaction I’ve seen so far, from what is essentially a pretty tame trailer (it’s the idea, not the content, which seems to be making people screw up their faces) I don’t know if the world is ready!

You can get the same experience by playing this demake anyway…

Play it right here…

UPDATE 1 : It seems that due to the popularity of this, the link to the game has gone down. I guess the moral of the story is this… don’t use the folks at everybodydancenow.net to host your games. Because, and I’m quite happy to go on record with this,everybodydancenow.net is run by twits. And one of them is responsible for this. And he’s got a girls name.

UPDATE 2 : Working again now.

I’m not shocked or offended, but I’m a bit mystified as to who the target audience is supposed to be. So, first imagine somebody that likes to do their flirting within the rigid social confines of adhering to the rules of some kind of party game. So far, so niche, but it’s plausible – I’ve been to parties involving Spin The Bottle, or Naked Twister, or whatever. It’s certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s some kind of audience for that.

Now imagine that Naked Twister is somehow not enough for the people who are inclined to throw those sorts of parties, and the only thing that’s really going to cut it is games on the Wii. I dunno… I don’t see how you could invite people to play sexy games on your Wii without coming across as a bit odd, frankly. I wouldn’t go to that party.

I don’t have any moral objections to the game at all, but it seems bizarre from a business standpoint. Who decided that there was enough of a target audience to make this profitable, and how did they come to that conclusion?
